Discover the Joy of Expressive Painting
Join Juneau artist Mary McEwen for exploration of loose floral watercolor and mixed media techniques. Designed for both beginners and those looking to refresh their creative practice, this workshop focuses on moving away from rigid detail and embracing a more intuitive, gestural style. Taking our inspiration from the flowers surrounding us at the farm, we will explore:
- Confident, expressive brushstrokes to capture the essence of petals and leaves
- Mixed media techniques to supplement the watercolor paints adding depth and texture to your compositions
- Creative flow and restraint to let the water and paint interact naturally on the paper without overworking the painting
All materials and supplies will be provided to use in the class. Students will take home their own hardcover watercolor sketchbook and flower bouquet.
About the Instructor
Mary McEwen is a Juneau-based artist working in painting, mixed media and fiber arts. She holds a BA in Art and is a member of the Juneau Artists Gallery co-op. Born and raised in Alaska, she holds this region as home while continuing to explore the world.

Class will be held in an unheated facility.
